Coupons are a great way to save money, and fortunately, you don’t have to spend hours combing through coupon sections to drastically reduce the cost of your groceries! Each week, take a few minutes to go through the coupon section and find the best deals. You’ll be amazed at how much you’re able to save on food costs.

  1. Buy produce in season.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are less expensive when they’re in season. This website can help you learn which fruits and veggies are in season throughout the year so you can shop with that in mind.

  1. Try frozen fruits and veggies.

For the fruits and veggies that aren’t in season, buying them frozen is a great option. They’re typically available for a much lower price. And because they’re usually frozen right after they’re picked, they carry the same nutritional value for a more economical price!

  1. Skip the drive-thru.

A $1 hamburger seems like a great deal, right? And since you’re already at the drive-thru, you might as well add some French fries and a soda to make it a meal. Suddenly, you’re looking at a $5 meal with little nutritional value. If you did that every day, you’d add $150 to your monthly food costs, not to mention the impact it would have on your health. Do yourself a favor, and stay away from the drive-thru!

Buying in bulk is a great way to save money in the long run. Most grocery stores offer discounts on bulk items, making it more economical than buying individual items. Since most fresh foods can be frozen to last longer, buying in bulk will also save you a few trips to the store!

  1. Embrace leftovers.

Eating leftovers is a great way to save money while eating healthy foods. Get into the habit of saving any food you have left over so you can enjoy it later. If you don’t have enough for an entire meal, get creative! For example, if you have left over veggies, you could make a healthy vegetable omelet. Eating leftovers will pay off in the long run!

This one is a little more time-consuming, but when money is tight, growing your own produce is a great way to enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables at a fraction of the cost at the grocery store. You’ll end up with more produce, and as a bonus, nothing is more delicious than home-grown fruits and vegetables. If you’re really ambitious, you can even learn to can some of your produce to last longer!
